Programmes as yet havent merged. As Nation hits and Nation is also on dab across North Wales looks as if theyre creating 2 welsh national pop stations with local targeted advertising in Nation and Nation hits. Where the welsh language and culture bit is ? Town and country are very anti welsh language and rather pay the fines associated with not playing welsh music on theyre stations, which all sound the same. Unfair to the likes of Swansea sound and Capital in North Wales and who are more popular without being detremental to theyre licence core requirement as Ofcom puts it here, to the welsh language. If you want welsh music 24/7 try in ur browser CYMRU FM or RADIO BECA which are tru local radio run by volunteers or youtube is a good source for welsh videos.

Re: London radio station in danger of losing licence

It's been off since 14th July, it used to be a pirate station, it claimed 600.000 listeners, and it covered greater London with a 25 watt transmitter, and still has its licence. When jingles were yanked from R.1, I was heartbroken. Jingles have always been a part of UK pop music radio culture but the R.5 Live announcement did not necessarily stun me. I am just glad to hear classic R.1 JAM cuts resung for R.2. Imagine if R,3 had a full jingle package.

In the USA, jingles were used by talk and sport stations to engrain the station's imaging (call/logo) for recall during ratings periods (when diaries were used). However in this age of PPM, there's less of a need for recall. People just hit the button on their pre-set and PPM does the rest. Fewer talk/sport stations in the USA than you think are still using jingles in their imaging.

"... and you remember, the jingles used to go..."

Re: I’m not being negative about radio, says Steve Penk

I was made redundant from commercial radio in 2009, and have struggled to find work since. I am now 41 and in my second year studying journalism and probably one of the oldest students on my local student station. When I was working in radio, I never thought I would be in this position six years later. At times I feel isolated, but have learned to gracefully accept that I may never be able to achieve my dream again of getting back on-air in commercial radio, but I have never given up. Its weird seeing all this youngsters winning awards knowing I have much more experience. I am guessing that I just need some more luck. I know what you mean Steve. Sadly I cannot see the situation changing.

Re: Vaizey to review commercial radio regulation

In other words de regulate everything & kill off community radio ?

Re: BBC Gillard Awards – the full winners list

Well deserved recognition for BBC Newcastle.

With the exception of the awful Anna Foster mid-morning show, the daytime programming is streets ahead of other BBC local stations I have heard across England.

Re: Vaizey to review commercial radio regulation

I beg to differ about Britain having unrivalled radio services-a lot of my listening is to overseas internet stations because of too much predictability and what I consider to be the watering down of many originally specialist stations to mainstream offerings in this country. However regulation has already been relaxed so much in recent years that it makes one wonder just how much scope is left to make further changes.I'm sure a lot of stations would like to be able to drop local news altogether and play what they like but would the big companies like it if community stations were able to compete with them on a level playing field -I somehow doubt it.I think it's sad that one has to rely on the BBC to get many of the features and variety one used to get from the commercial sector before their requirements were watered down
